More Volunteers, More Outreach

Volunteers finish their training with one last group activity
Numbers of volunteers have multiplied throughout the first half of 2008, and on Friday, 19 July, Questscope held a group dinner for the latest group to complete the training sessions.  31 newly trained Iraqi and Jordanian mentors became part of a body of over 3800 volunteers who bring new hope for a better future to an entire generation of disadvantaged Iraqi and Jordanian boys and girls.

The leader of the training sessions, Ashraf Abu Al Halaweh has high hopes for the volunteers he trains.

“I want them to believe in the power of volunteerism,” says Ashraf.  “God willing, they will come to understand how working with marginalized Iraqis, Jordanians, and juvenile offenders not only changes individuals, but entire communities as well.”

Volunteers invited their friends and families to the dinner, to share in the celebration.  Almong the guests was Dr. Ibrahim Al Turki, who represents the Child Protection Initiative of the Arab Urban Development Institute (AUDI) in Saudi Arabia.

In recent weeks, AUDI has indicated a desire to increase their cooperation with Questscope to bring the Mentoring and Non-Formal Education programs to Khartoum, Sudan, Sanaa’, Yemen, and Aleppo, Syria.  Dr. Al Turki’s visit with the volunteers was a unique opportunity for him to see first hand the driving force behind Questscope’s programs.

When addressing the group, Dr. Al Turki said, “I am blown away by the friendship and fellowship that I saw here tonight.  Absolutely blown away.”
